Today we had a few more hours in London before leaving to meet Katelyn in Paris. In the morning, we hit a couple more tourist-y spots like St. Paul’s cathedral, the Millennium Bridge, and Picadilly Circus (in daylight this time). The weather really opened up yesterday and today, so blue skies all around. I dare say perhaps even a bit too warm.
We had an itching for some pizza, so we hit up the lunch buffet at Pizza Hut near our hostel before picking up the heavy luggage. Yum. As an aside, the English don’t know what Mountain Dew is, at least our waiter didn’t. Poor Jen had to settle for Fanta, and it was all Nick could do to get him to refill his Pepsi. To be sure, he found a 2-liter of precious Coca-cola before we skipped town.
Hoping to get free internet at the Victoria library near the bus station, we rode the Tube, bags in tow, all the way down there only to realize they wanted £6 per hour. We promptly departed once again for the good old British Library, where we spent the rest of our London time surfing and charging up iPods before gettin’ on the bus to Paris.
The bus ride wasn’t bad, but the whole euro-tunnel experience was quite time consuming. Between customs and security and loading the coach into a shipping container, it took about two hours to get across the English channel. If only we’d been here a few thousand years ago we could have crossed the land causeway. Oh well.
