Goodbye, St. Andrews

We started the day early so Greg, Nick and Jen could get out before Katelyn’s maid showed up (yes, they have maids in the dorms at St. Andrews) and caught us. So, we went to check out the Cathedral ruins in the daylight this time. It was quite a magnificent sight to behold, and a shame that the 12th century landmark didn’t survive the reformation. We also visited Tom Morris’ grave, the man who popularized the great sport of golf.

We perused a couple local bookshops on the way back to St. Regulus hall, but failed to find any of the British Harry Potter books missing from Jen’s collection. After collecting Ms. Hahn, we headed out for brunch at North Point, a nice little coffee shop/bistro-type place. The atmosphere was cool, but the blueberry scones were awesome. And the hot chocolate too.

And as our last act in St. Andrews, we paid a visit to the uber-famous Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews Golf Course. We were invited to play a round of 18, but felt a bit underdressed. So, we settled for a couple free brochures instead. The caddies would have had a hard time keeping tabs on Greg’s wild drives anyway.

On our way out, we brought along all of Katelyn’s luggage, a feat which cannot be understated. It was a good thing we had four people, because it would have been impossible for Katie alone. As it turned out, the taxi + storage space combo worked out pretty well.

We spent the next couple hours trying to figure out buses and such, but eventually all the offices closed and we gave up and went to Burger King. Their chicken nuggets aren’t quite the same, though. After that, we decided to turn in early after a few hands of cards and Katelyn and Jen’s total domination.
