After all the excitement from the yesterday, all four of us slept like babies. We woke up and had breakfast in our hostel before gathering our belongings and heading out. Katelyn wanted to go to the Centre Georges Pompidou before leaving Paris and Greg decided he would humour her by tagging along. Jen and Nick opted to sit outside to guard the luggage and enjoy the free internet, but didn’t anticipate the heat and sweatiness. C’est la vie, non?
Inside the museum we wandered the galleries for an hour and admired all things modern. Very, very modern. We were especially amused by the furniture design exhibits in which chairs were put on display and explicitly marked with “Do not touch” signs. Well, if you can’t sit in a chair, what’s it for? Other highlights included a Rothko exhibit, Marcel Duchamp’s bicycle wheel, and a giant red plastic rhinoceros. There are those who think modern art is all about throwing marbles randomly at a urinal, and while this may be true, we still thoroughly enjoy it.
Next came the long metro ride to the bus station to make the 15 hour trip from Paris to Barcelona. To be fair, it was only 15 hours because the we had to pass through Lyon on the way. But we finally made it to Barcelona safe and sound in the early wee hours of Saturday morning.
