One week in India

We’ve officially been here one entire week, so I thought I would share some snapshots of our life the past 7 days. Of course Greg has been working a lot, but Elliotte and I have tried to get out and explore as much as possible…not exactly easy when crossing the road requires us to take our lives in our own hands. We’ll get better at it, I’m sure.

Home, for now

I’ll start with a video tour of our “apartment”- really just a fancy hotel suite with a full kitchen. We aren’t sure if we are going to stay at this place, because while it has a lot of creature comforts, it can be a bit isolating. We’ve booked two weeks here so we’ll decide in the next few days whether to stay or go. Check it out and weigh in if you like:

And here are a few more photos of the apartment, our neighborhood, and Ellie of course! (EIther click on the photo below or scroll to the bottom to see the full gallery.)

Aga Khan Palace

This weekend was the first real opportunity we had to get out and do some sightseeing. We decided to visit the Aga Khan palace where Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned in the 1940s. His ashes are laid to rest here alongside his wife’s and secretary’s in a fittingly humble memorial at the back of the palace grounds. While the palace itself is showing it’s age, it still has the air of significance and regality about it and it was a lovely, quiet place to spend a few hours. We only left when we realized that Ellie was becoming a bigger draw than the palace itself. We are struggling with how to be friendly, but also ensure the safety of our girl. It’s difficult when strangers will just run toward her and scoop her up in their arms to take photos without even asking. She is a good sport, but it must scare her and we aren’t comfortable with it. One of many challenges we are sure to face here. (Either click on the photo below or scroll to the bottom to see the full gallery.)

So that’s one week down! And so much more to come!

That kitchen is huge! Grant was telling us how he just upgraded to an apartment with two burners, so seeing your hotel already set up that way seemed like quite the luxury! Hahaha
Living outside the hotel sounds appealing if you’re able to find a place that can provide a good balance of exposure and security. I’m definitely a fan of immersion whenever possible!

Grandpa made copies of Ellie at the Aga Khan Palace to show our India friend, Megha.  So adorable and soaking in the culture!!!!

The lights won’t come on without a key. A great incentive for Katie to keep track of her keys.

I’m so glad you revived the blog! I feel so out of the loop not being on FB, and you travel halfway round the world and all of the sudden I can catch up with you again!!! Props to Dave and Cprek for tipping me off!
With that out of the way, I agree with Geraldine (and knowing you two, I’m sure it’s something you’re itching to make possible). Also can’t help laughing at Dave’s comment.
Your description of international airports is so spot-on. Lots of Afghan and Pakistani cab drivers here in DC, and I always try to get them to tell me their favorite vacation spots/places of memories from home, so I’ll have an idea of where to travel one day. I feel the same way about the big train stations in Europe, when you’re standing under that clattering tile destination/arrivals board. Itchy feet just reading here!
I’m glad to hear and see you made it over and have started your explorations and adventures. Keep us well posted! Love you three so much!

We love the pictures.  Elliotte has such personality and sparkle; everyone here adores her.  We are looking forward to more of your adventure.
With much love,  Grandma & Grandpa Mike
