Soundtrack of our Lives: Part 4

Since our last post in this series (see parts one, two, and three), there has been an almost complete turnover in radio hits here in Korea. It seems success is just as fleeting here as anywhere else. Never fear, though, K-Pop lives on with newer, ungrammatical-er, techno-y-er, and annoying-er songs than ever before!

Nobody would be caught dead listening to “Nobody” these days, and despite its supreme reign for months, the song has all but disappeared from public consciousness. Here’s a taste of the new black, starting with Super Junior, the 13-boy megagroup we mentioned before:

Yes, all those guys are absolutely necessary. And let’s not forget the latest super-hit from 9-member Girls’ Generation who seem obsessed with the 50s-era meme “Gee”:

That’s been all over the place the last month or so. Which leaves us with the last, most ungrammatical-est, and bane of our existence:

That’s no joke, they’re actually saying “If you wanna pretty, every wanna pretty.” Our best guess is that “pretty” is used here as a hybrid noun/verb/article. Man, we hate that song so much; it’s possibly the most annoying tune we’ve ever heard. And it plays at least four times an hour everywhere we go.

So that’s the latest here in Korea. It’s become clear to us how much our time has been marked by the rise and fall of these songs. Thinking back, “One More Time” seems like, so 8 months ago.

Wow, that is REALLY annoying English. Also, why is that one girl quacking on the coach when the others poke her? They all look like Bratz dolls.

while all those people may not be necessary to the song… you have to admit they make for a smashing dance routine, lol

Well, now we know what we’re in for when we come.  Will these songs make it till then?  Thank goodness for Ipods…

Oh, I’m certain these will be alive and well when you come to visit. Just last night we heard “Sorry, Sorry” four times in our first 30 minutes at the bar!

hahaha…  so I showed those videos to Alex and he was like… seriously? I then showed him the videos from your other soundtrack entry and he was just like “wow.” somehow i don’t remember MTV Asia being so… flamboyant?! if that’s even the best way to describe the over-the-top ness of the bands.

also, if you’ve got a spare Skpye moment to spare, i’ve got something to share with you :) i’m generally around before noon during the week if that translates into a good time for you two!
